Women to Benefit from Business and Vocational Skills Training

More than 30,000 women in Nairobi’s low income settlements are set to benefit from a skills transfer programme to be carried out by National Industrial Training Authority (NITA). The Authority, in partnership with SITE Enterprise Promotion, will impart the target participants with business and vocational skills. SITE Enterprise Promotion is a development organisation promoting enterprise development among Small and Micro Enterprises.

The training component of the programme is to be carried out by NITA Textile Training Institute and will target 20,000 small scale traders and 10,000 domestic workers who seek transition into self-employment by establishing small businesses.

Through the initiative dubbed ‘Wezesha Jamii’, the Institute will be expected to carry out a training needs assessment among women in Kibra, Mukuru, Mathare and Kawangware areas. As part of sensitizing women in Kibra, NITA participated in an exhibition held at the Kenya Assemblies of God Olympic Christian Centre on Thursday, July 14, 2016.

The four year project is funded by the European Union.
