NITA - Athiriver

NITA - Athiriver is one of the Centre’s under the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) within the Ministry of Labour. It derives its mandate from Cap 237 of the Laws of Kenya. The primary focus of the Centre is to offer industrial training and supply competent manpower to the formal and informal industry.

The institution is located in Machakos County along the Nairobi-Namanga highway Kitengela Township approximately 30km from Nairobi. It is strategically located to serve various industries in Athi River, people in the rural setting and those living in Nairobi and its suburbs. It is situated on a 40 acre compound with a number of facilities that include: -

  • Training facilities with state of the art workshops
  • Conference Facility – with accomodation for 60 participants
  • ICT Centre – with ultra-modern facilities
  • Automotive Production Unit (Auto-garage)
  • Health Care Centre – with dental unit
  • New ladies Dormitory

NITA - Athiriver was established following a bilateral agreement for financial support between the Government of Kenya and the Government of the Republic of South Korea in 1992.  The construction and equipping of the existing buildings and workshops commenced in 1994 and was completed in 1997.  The Centre became operational in September 2000 with a pioneer class of 55 trainees in Electrical, Mechanical, Automotive and Electronics engineering departments. The Centre has since grown to offer courses at Diploma and Certificate levels as well as Competency Based Training (CBT) and tailor made programs to meet the skills gaps in industries.
