NITA Acting Director General Theresa Wasike, has urged assessors selected for the April 2025 Government Trade Test series to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity and fairness throughout the assessment process.
Speaking on Wednesday during a virtual briefing attended by assessors, Ms. Wasike noted that trade tests play a critical role in certifying skills, opening job opportunities and enhancing livelihoods for thousands of skilled workers. She stressed that the assessments must be administered transparently and credibly to ensure that candidates receive certificates that are recognized and respected both locally and internationally.
The April Trade Test series, set to commence on April 7, 2025, will assess an unprecedented 21,582 candidates across 521 trade test centers nationwide. These tests, covering a wide range of industrial skills, serve as a gateway to better job opportunities, promotions, and formal recognition of expertise acquired through experience and non-traditional training paths.
The DG further said that NITA is committed to expanding access to trade certification, revealing that the authority targets to assess over 80,000 candidates by June 2025 as part of its strategic goal to bridge the skills gap and enhance workforce employability.
Also present during the briefing were Assessment and Certification Manager Augustine Rono, Labour Migration Manager Karoli Otieno, Registration and Accreditation Manager Peter Njiru and ICT Manager Festus Kitui.
