NITA is a key player in the implementation of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) in the country. The RPL process enables persons to acquire formal qualifications that matches their knowledge and skills and thereby, contributing to improving their employ-ability, mobility and lifelong learning.

Section 3A of the Industrial Training Act provides for the Powers and Functions of the Authority which include; Assessing industrial training, testing occupational skills and awarding certificates including Government trade test certificates. In furtherance of this function, the Authority has been conducting the National Trade Test since 1959.

Kenya’s first recognition of prior learning conferment of certificates to 62 Graduates training with base titanium in collaboration with NITA took place at Kwale County on 7^th July 2022. The Cabinet Secretary ministry of labour Hon. Simon Chelugui was the chief guest. NITA’s Board members were present led by Mr. Mike Macharia representing the Board Chairman and the Director General Mr. Stephen Ogenga among other members of staff.

The Authority took part in the National Job fair that was conducted by National Employment Authority on 28^th June 2022 in Mombasa County. The Director General Mr. Stephen Ogenga who was  a key note speaker during the event noted in his remarks that: Skill development is crucial to stimulate the process of economic development.
